This book would never have been put together had it not been for the important little people behind the scenes.. The introduction section answers many of the basic questions about working with sugarpaste which I hope you'll find helpful. Then, with the cakes themselves, I have tried to cover as many children's interests and hobbies as I can, to make that annual dilemma of "What shall I make this year?" that little bit easier, I've given short cuts or alternatives wherever possible and even suggest where it might be best to place the candles on your cake.
Make your cake designs sit up and take notice with the aid of two pudding bowl cakes... Ingredients: 2 pudding bowl cakes, 1 quantity buttercream, Icing sugar for rolling out, 450 g (1 lb) pink sugarpaste, 450 g (1 lb) flesh-coloured sugarpaste, 560 g (1 lb 4 oz) white sugarpaste, Black and red food colour pastes, 300 g (10,5 oz) pale blue sugarpaste, 200 g (7 oz) yellow sugarpaste.
If there are lots of children coming to the party; you may find that you have to make a few extra toadstools - they look so cute that everyone will want to take one home with them.
These mav not have exactly the same texture or appearance as the real thing but the advantage is that they only take four minutes to cook. They look a lot paler than a cooked in a traditional oven bui after they've been covered with lashings of buttercream, they'll disappear in a very traditional manner...
"Traditional rich fruit cake": this cake should keep for about three months.
Tropical fruit cake
Chocolate fruit cake - this is one of those recipes which at first glance you think couldn't possibly work.
